United States President Donald Trump has described the midair collision between a US Army helicopter and an American Airlines passenger plane as a “bad situation that should have been prevented.”

Trump impliedly blamed the control tower questioning why it didn’t tell the helicopter what to do instead of asking if they saw the plane.

It was reported that a United States Army Black Hawk helicopter collided midair with an American Airlines jet on Wednesday at Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia.

According to the report, the plane had 60 passengers and 4 crew members on board and had departed from Wichita, Kansas.

“The airplane was on a perfect and routine line of approach to the airport. The helicopter was going straight at the airplane for an extended period of time. It is a CLEAR NIGHT, the lights on the plane were blazing, why didn’t the helicopter go up or down, or turn.

“Why didn’t the control tower tell the helicopter what to do instead of asking if they saw the plane,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

“This is a bad situation that looks like it should have been prevented. NOT GOOD!!!” the president continued.

However, CNN reports that it was not immediately clear whether Trump’s post was based on information on which he had been officially briefed.
