The epic Nollywood historical film, King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos, is set to hit cinemas nationwide on Aug. 28.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Teqsus Studio, the production company, made the announcement in a post on its Instagram page, @teqsusstdio.
The post reads:”The battle for Lagos is coming.
“Power. Betrayal. Legacy.
“The story unfolds August 28 in cinemas nationwide.
“KING KÒSÓKÒ: THE BATTLE FOR LAGOS
“Are you ready?”
“ King Kosoko:The Battle for Lagos”,a Yoruba-language historical drama, directed by filmmaker Adebayo Tijani, tells the story of Oba Kosoko and the power struggles that shaped Lagos in the 19th century.
The film is scheduled to have its grand premiere on Aug. 23 at IMAX Lekki, Lagos, ahead of its nationwide theatrical release.
Produced by Teqsus Studios and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, the movie explores the history of Lagos as a powerful kingdom before its transformation into a modern city.
Set between 1833 and 1852, the plot focuses on the struggles for the throne, political rivalries, leadership and the resistance to forces seeking to influence the affairs of the kingdom.
Femi Adebayo plays the lead role of King Kosoko, the 12th Oba of Lagos, while the production features more than 70 actors.
The movie features a seasoned cast including; Odunlade Adekola, Jide Kosoko, Gabriel Afolayan, Fathia Williams, Yinka Quadri, Taiwo Hassan, Tina Mba and Femi Branch, among others.
The film is among the historical productions that are bringing Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and historical narratives to a wider cinema audience. (NAN)
