A 55-year-old man, identified as Olubunmi Johnson, has been apprehended by operatives of the Ogun State police command for allegedly setting his wife ablaze in the Ota area of the State.

According to DAILY POST, the incident occurred at about 8:30 pm on Friday, following a disagreement between the couple at their residence in Fagbuyi Street, Ilogbo.

The suspect was said to have doused his wife, Kikelomo, with petrol and set her on fire.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident on Monday, said the command was alerted by the victim’s relatives.

She stated that Johnson had been arrested, and an investigation into the case as an attempted murder had begun.

“The police officers from the Ilogbo Division quickly took action, resulting in the arrest of the 55-year-old suspect.

“The husband doused his wife’s body with petrol and set her on fire with a match. Witnesses to the incident immediately rushed her to the hospital.

“Upon receiving the report, our detectives quickly took action and arrested the husband, who has since been detained,” Odutola added.
