Ojumoola Timileyin Emerges as NANS’ Director of Sports

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has elected Comrade Ojumoola Miracle Timileyin of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, as its new National Director of Sports.

The election followed the successful conclusion of the association’s 2026 National Convention held at the Old Parade Ground, Abuja, where student leaders and delegates from across the country gathered to elect a new national leadership for the association.

Timileyin is a former Chairman of NANS in Edo State and the immediate past Financial Secretary/Treasurer of NANS Zone B (South South Zone). His emergence is widely seen as a recognition of his years of commitment to student unionism, youth development and grassroots mobilisation within the students’ movement.

Speaking shortly after his election, Timileyin expressed appreciation to delegates and stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him, assuring Nigerian students that he would work diligently to advance sports development across tertiary institutions in the country.

According to him, sports remain a powerful tool for youth engagement, talent discovery, national unity and personal development, adding that his administration would focus on creating more opportunities for student-athletes and promoting sporting excellence within campuses nationwide.

“I am deeply honoured by the trust and confidence reposed in me by Nigerian students through their representatives. This victory is not for me alone but for every student who believes in the transformative power of sports as a vehicle for unity, leadership and national development. Above all, I give glory to God Almighty whose grace and faithfulness have sustained me throughout this journey,” he said.

“I also wish to express my sincere appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his commitment to youth development and inclusion, and the management of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, for their support and encouragement. I am equally grateful to Comrade Olushola Oladoja (immediate-past NANS President), Comrade Eshiofune Paul Oghayan (NAPS President), Rev. Moore, whom I proudly regard as my political godfather, Leader Aruna Kadiri, Leader Okoh Sylvester, Leader Armstrong, Leader Ikpomwosa, leaders of NANS in the South-West Zone, members of the Edo State comrades community, and all friends and supporters who stood by me and journeyed with me to Abuja for the convention. Their unwavering support, sacrifice and belief in my aspiration contributed immensely to this success.

“I am committed to working with stakeholders across the country to revive campus sporting activities, identify talents, promote healthy competition and ensure that Nigerian students are adequately represented and supported in sporting engagements at all levels.”

Comrade Timileyin also congratulated the newly elected NANS National President, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez (Babtee), and other members of the newly elected National Executive Council, expressing confidence in their ability to provide purposeful leadership for Nigerian students.

He called on students across the country to remain united and supportive of the new leadership, stressing that collective effort would be required to address the challenges confronting students and reposition the association for greater impact.

NANS is the umbrella body representing the interests and welfare of millions of Nigerian students in tertiary institutions across the country. The association advocates for quality education, students’ welfare and meaningful youth participation in national development.
