The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers following a distress call over an alleged robbery attack around Sumal Junction Roundabout, Ibadan.
The suspects were arrested on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at about 9:15 p.m., after the Divisional Police Officer of the Oluyole Divisional Headquarters received information that armed men were attacking and dispossessing members of the public of their belongings in the area.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, a police patrol team was immediately deployed to the scene.
The intervention led to the arrest of three suspects identified as Sunday Obasola, 29; Kayode Bamikole, 28; and Durodoye Ayobami, 23.
Police said one black TVS motorcycle with registration number AKN 808 QF, one cut-to-size locally fabricated pistol and one live cartridge were recovered from the suspects.
The Command said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects confessed to robbing a tricycle driver and two passengers, while also allegedly injuring other persons during their operations.
The three suspects are currently in police custody, while the case has been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Eleyele, Ibadan, for discreet and thorough investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, psc, mnips, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property through prompt response to distress calls, intelligence-led policing and sustained operations against criminal elements.
