Police Dismiss Bomb Fears after Gas Explosion Destroys Vehicles at Kaduna Motor Park

Three luxury buses were destroyed in an explosion at Mando Motor Park in Kaduna, with police authorities describing the incident as a gas-related accident rather than a bomb blast.

The vehicles, reportedly owned by Silver Transport Company, were said to be compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered and had been parked ahead of scheduled interstate trips when the explosion occurred around 3:00 a.m.Sunday.
A manager with a logistics company operating within the park, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the buses were stationary at the time of the incident and had been newly acquired.
“Thank God no one was inside the vehicles. They were parked to board passengers this morning,” the source said, adding concerns about the safety of CNG-powered vehicles. “These vehicles are using CNG. We are not matured enough to use them.”
However, in a statement issued on Sunday, the Kaduna State Police Command disputed earlier reports suggesting multiple explosions or a possible bomb blast.
According to the police, preliminary findings indicate that the incident involved a single gas-powered luxury bus belonging to Silver Luxury Travel, which experienced what they described as a “minor explosion” due to overfilling of its gas tank.
“On 5th April, 2026, at about 0300 hours, a loud sound was reported… detectives were promptly dispatched to the scene,” the statement said. “Preliminary findings revealed that the incident involved an LNG-propelled luxury bus which exploded due to overfilling of its gas tank.”
The police added that the affected vehicle has been evacuated, the area secured, and normal activities have resumed. They also stated that no casualties or additional property damage were recorded.
The Commissioner of Police in the state has ordered a full investigation, with support from the bomb disposal unit of the Nigeria Police Force, to determine the exact cause of the incident and prevent future occurrences.
Authorities urged the public and media to verify information before dissemination, warning that unverified reports could trigger unnecessary panic.
