The Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, has ordered the suspension of civil servants who were absent from their duty posts as of 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, following a surprise visit to the state secretariat in Awka.

The directive came after the governor conducted an on-the-spot inspection to assess workers’ punctuality, conduct, and commitment across various ministries and departments.

Speaking with journalists after the visit, Soludo said any worker not found at their duty post by 10:00 a.m. should be suspended without pay.

“I moved from office to office and discovered that a significant number of workers were yet to report for duty even after 10 a.m. This is unacceptable,” he said.

The governor warned that underperforming staff, whom he described as “bad eggs,” would be removed from the system, stressing that the state could not afford an inefficient civil service.

Soludo said his observations during the visit reflected “the good, the bad, and the ugly.”

While expressing disappointment over absenteeism and poor work ethic among some workers, he also commended those who were diligent and present at their duty posts.

He warned that the state government would no longer tolerate indiscipline and lack of commitment within the civil service.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s determination to build a disciplined, efficient, and results-driven workforce, noting that reforms in the sector would be strictly enforced.

Soludo also noted that the government had made significant investments in improving infrastructure and working conditions at the state secretariat, urging workers to reciprocate the gesture with greater dedication and productivity.
