Southwest NNPP PRO, Comrade Bako Celebrates Eid in Abeokuta, Preaches Peace, Unity

By Ibrahim Kegbegbe

The Southwest Public Relations Officer of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Comrade Badmus Kilamuwaye Oladayo, popularly known as Bako, joined thousands of Muslim faithful from his constituency in Abeokuta South to observe the 2025 Eid al-Adha prayers today, Friday, June 6.

The Eid prayer, which took place at the Abeokuta central prayer ground, was attended by political leaders, traditional rulers, and religious adherents, as Muslims across Nigeria and the world commemorated the annual festival known as Eid al-Adha, or Eid al-Kabir — a major Islamic feast symbolizing the values of sacrifice, obedience, and devotion.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the prayers, Comrade Bako extended warm greetings to Muslims in Nigeria, Africa, and across the globe, wishing them a blissful and spiritually fulfilling Sallah celebration.

“Eid al-Adha reminds us of the virtues of sacrifice, submission to God, and the importance of helping one another, especially the needy,” Bako said. “As we celebrate, let us remember the true meaning of this holy day and extend love, kindness, and generosity beyond our religious boundaries.”

In a message of national unity, the NNPP spokesperson called on both Muslims and Christians to embrace peaceful coexistence and mutual respect. He emphasized that Nigeria’s diversity should be seen as a strength rather than a point of division.

“This country belongs to all of us — Muslims, Christians, and people of other faiths,” he stated. “We must learn to live together peacefully and harmoniously, supporting one another regardless of religious or ethnic differences.”

Bako also used the occasion to call on both the state and federal governments to take a cue from the lessons of the Eid celebration by promoting policies that foster unity, equity, and justice.

“Governments at all levels should reflect on the essence of this sacred day,” he advised. “Let them implement initiatives that bring relief to the masses, bridge the gap between the rich and the poor, and encourage religious tolerance and social development.”

Eid al-Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is one of the most important holidays in the Islamic calendar. It honors the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God — a sacrifice that was divinely substituted with a ram. In keeping with this tradition, Muslim families around the world slaughter animals and distribute portions to the less privileged, friends, and neighbors.

This year’s celebration, which comes amid economic challenges and social tension across the country, provided an opportunity for political and religious leaders to preach unity and sacrifice for the collective good of the nation.

Comrade Bako, a grassroots politician and respected advocate for youth empowerment and interfaith dialogue, has consistently used religious and national events to promote peaceful coexistence and good governance. His presence at the Eid ground today was warmly received by constituents who described him as a bridge-builder and voice of moderation in Ogun politics.

As the Eid festivities continue through the weekend, Bako urged Nigerians not only to celebrate but to reflect deeply on the values of compassion, responsibility, and nation-building.

“Let this Sallah not be just about feasting,” he concluded. “Let it be a turning point for us as a people to renew our commitment to a united, prosperous, and peaceful Nigeria.”
