Tinubu Congratulates Remo Stars on Historic NPFL Title Win
President Bola  Tinubu has congratulated Remo Stars Football Club for clinching the 2024-2025 Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) title, marking a historic milestone for Ikenne and Ogun State.
Speaking through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the victory-achieved just four years after the club’s promotion to the top flight-as a testament to the “hard work, discipline, and unyielding spirit” of the players, coaching staff, and management.
Highlighting the team’s resilience, Tinubu noted their courage in overcoming three previous near-misses in the league title race. “Their courage in pursuing success despite three previous near-misses is admirable,” he said. “I hope their example will inspire other Nigerian clubs to pursue their dreams continuously with tenacity and optimism”.
He also praised the vision and commitment of club owner and chairman Kunle Soname, particularly his investment in grassroots football and the construction of a state-of-the-art stadium in Ikenne, which has laid a strong foundation for sports development in Nigeria.
As Nigeria’s new champions, Remo Stars will represent the country in the CAF Champions League. President Tinubu urged the team to carry their “undaunting spirit and focus” into continental competition and called on football fans nationwide to rally behind them as they carry Nigeria’s hopes on the African stage.
Remo Stars secured the NPFL title with three games to spare after a thrilling 1-0 win over Niger Tornadoes in Ikenne on April 27, 2025. Second-half substitute Olamilekan Adedayo scored the decisive goal in the 83rd minute, securing Remo’s 21st win of the season and an unassailable 10-point lead over second-placed Rivers United.
This victory makes Remo Stars the first Southwest club to win the Nigerian top-flight league since Julius Berger’s triumph in 1991, ending a 34-year drought for the region.
