The Lagos State Police Command has announced the restoration of peace and commercial activities at Tejuosho Market Phase II, Surulere, after violent unrest allegedly instigated by hoodlums posing as protesters over a power outage.

According to the Command, the suspects vandalised sections of a commercial bank within the market and launched assaults on policemen stationed at the premises.

Operatives of the Police Mobile Force, PMF, reportedly repelled the attack, preventing the hoodlums from gaining access to both the bank and the market police post.

The police noted that its men exercised “commendable restraint” despite heavy provocation.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Babasuyi B. Oluseyi, in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, disclosed that 18 suspects were apprehended at the scene.

“On September 18, 2025, at about 2:30 p.m., the Command received a distress call that hoodlums had begun attacking people, damaging goods, and destroying property at Tejuosho Market,” the statement read.

“Further information revealed that the hoodlums attempted to attack Mobile Policemen guarding a commercial bank. The officers firmly resisted them and prevented an invasion of the bank and the Market Police Post,” it added.

The Commissioner of Police, it was gathered, immediately deployed additional tactical squads and conventional operatives to restore normalcy.

Trading activities have since resumed, while investigations continue to track down other members of the group.

Oluseyi quoted CP Jimoh as cautioning that violent attacks on security personnel and destruction of property would not be condoned.

“The suspects are currently in custody and will be prosecuted upon conclusion of investigations,” the statement concluded.
