The Ogun State Police Command has stated that the viral video clips circulating on social media, in which an unidentified individual issued threats against certain communities and tertiary institutions in the state, are Artificial Intelligence (AI) generated.

The police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, said in a statement made available on Wednesday that the content did not originate from any known terrorist organisation or operational cell.

Odutola explained that the footage was first traced to a foreign online source three months ago, after which it resurfaced in various forms on different platforms.

Odutola said, “Following a forensic analysis by our cybercrime and intelligence units, the Command hereby states as follows: That the circulating video clips were created using artificial intelligence, AI, by a clandestine individual or group of persons yet to be identified.

“The content did not originate from any known terrorist organization or operational cell.

“At present, there is no credible intelligence indicating any planned attack on Ogun State or any of its communities, schools, or public institutions.”

The police spokesperson disclosed that the command is working to uncover the identity of the individual or network responsible for generating and circulating the “misleading video clips.”

She urged members of the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified materials, continue their lawful activities without fear, and encouraged residents to promptly report any suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest police formation.

The command, according to her, has increased surveillance, enhanced patrols, and sustained inter-agency collaboration to ensure the continuous peace and security of all residents.
